Norda Mullen was born in Savannah, Tennessee and spent her early years learning piano and flute, becoming a classical flute major several years later. When she was 10 years old, the big hit of the year was the Moody Blues’ ‘Nights in White Satin’ and she learned to play the flute solo – a sign of what was to come many years later.
After early work in classical orchestras, Mullen graduated to the Chicago pop scene, and played with cult band, ‘Cause For Passion’ in the early 80’s, and upon moving to LA, ‘Bahu Rang’, in the 90’s. In 1996, Norda was asked to play with Moody Blues’ Justin Hayward, on a solo tour, previewing a permanent move that was to follow. She then formed a musical association with the legendary Randy Newman, playing on hit film sound tracks, such as ‘Toy Story’, ‘Sea Biscuit’, ‘Meet the Parents, and ‘Monsters, Inc.’, and later played on Newman’s album, ‘Harps and Angels’.
In February 2014, Norda released her self titled solo CD ‘NORDA’.This lush collection of music mirrors Norda’s eclectic range of styles – from classic rock to symphonic tones – a rich tapestry of musical influences including the Pretenders, Annie Lennox, Moody Blues, Randy Newman and Grandaddy. These 10 original tracks, represent the best of melodic pop/rock, blended with some of her new and original arrangements.
